Welcome to:
The Westview Wildcats
A FIRST Robotics Team
Who are the Wildcats?
We are 1510, an FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team based out of Westview High School in Portland.
We have members from a wide variety of schools around the district including Sunset, Mountainside, and ISB.
In this club, students learn a variety of both technical and interpersonal skills that will assist them later in
life, from manufacturing and designing to electrical and programming to even business and media.
We incorporate more than just science but also creativity and problem solving to provide an environment for
students of all interests. You don't need to just be interested in engineering to join the Wildcats, we have a
position for everyone. Inclusivity is one of our top priorities and our team members come from all over. Our
team is a great place to start your robotics journey.
What is FIRST?
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international youth organization that operates
the FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST LEGO League, FIRST LEGO League Jr., and FIRST Tech Challenge competitions.
Founded by Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers in 1989, its expressed goal is to develop ways to inspire students in
engineering and technology fields. Its philosophy is expressed by the organization as coopertition and gracious
professionalism. FIRST also operates FIRST Place, a research facility at FIRST headquarters in Manchester, New

Computer-Aided Design
Every engineering career requires you to know CAD or Computer Aided Design. This is the ability to design the object on the computer so that other people can replicate it. On our team, the CAD students design and create the robot digitally so that the whole team can build the robot based on that.
-
Mechanical
Mechanical is an essential skill needed for the real word. It allows you to be able to construct and fix things in your everyday life. Our students in the mechanical subteam construct all of the pieces of the robot including the frame and mechanisms.
-
Electrical
As the bloodline of the bot, the electrical team here wire components, motors, power etc. together and handles the pneumatic system.Students here learn the ins and outs of the FRC electrical system and also real life electrical systems' applications and knowledge as well.
-
Programming
Programming is a very successful and rewarding career that allows you to receive a generous income. The students in this team program the robot and make sure it can actually run.
-
Business
Business is an essential skill in life. It allows you to earn money, build relationships with other groups, and promote yourself. On our team, the business students earn grants, sponsors, plan demonstrations, and strengthen our relations with other teams.
-
Teamwork
Teamwork is crucial to every team's success and this team is not an exception. The ability to work with people of different personalities, mindsets, and abilities is an essential skill in life and one that will allow you to make greater advancements in your careers.
